JENNIFER LOVE

Jennifer Love recalls how a thriving career as a drag performer, her “gateway to self-discovery,” was cut short when she went to prison in the early 2000s. As a trans woman, she endured violence from others who were incarcerated with her, and the indifference of those charged with her care. Drawing strength from her family’s unwavering support, Jennifer emerged determined to give back. Today, she dedicates her life to helping formerly incarcerated trans people successfully rejoin their communities. “I’ve learned the importance of accountability,” she says. “Now I know that it’s important for me to share my traumas, especially the traumas I’ve overcome.”
